Literacy
Clark State Community College offers a state-of-the-art training facility for Early Childhood Education students. Located just minutes away from campus, adjacent to the Springfield-Clark Joint Vocational School (SCJVS), the Early Childhood Education Center serves as a demonstration facility for students, community members and parents of young children. This facility serves as a laboratory setting for both Clark State and Springfield-Clark JVS students.
The Early Childhood Education Center provides opportunities for students to observe best practices in classrooms serving infants, toddlers and preschoolers. In addition to first-hand observation in classrooms, Clark State also offers opportunities for closed circuit television observation (CCTV) and viewing through one-way windows inside the Clark State Instructional Classroom.
Teachers employed in the training and demonstration facility have received extensive training in early childhood education, and many have completed the rigorous Early Literacy Certificate program and serve as mentors for pre- and in-service students.
Faculty from the Clark State Early Childhood Education Center work collaboratively to provide high quality experiences for students at the high school and college levels.
